A previous posting on this subject was made on November 27, 2012. The following message provides new information received
“The City of Austin Watershed Protection Department (WPD), and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and UT Law School need your assistance in publicizing a matter that is very important to the quality of life in Austin, especially in your neighborhood: the quality of our streams.
Your neighborhood is in close proximity to one of the four Austin streams that do not meet state standards for “contact recreation” due to bacterial contamination: Walnut Creek, Waller Creek, Spicewood Tributary of Shoal Creek, and Taylor Slough South. But an effort is underway to develop an implementation plan to solve that by providing a guide for improving the quality of water in these streams.
You can find out more about this plan by going to the website below, which includes a link to the City’s “Find your watershed” online map to see which of these watersheds your neighborhood is in. Feel free to print the flyer if you have an opportunity to post it in your community. This endeavor is limited to these 4 specific watersheds, as represented on the map, so the neighborhood adjacent to yours may not be affected.
