The following is copied from a message from the City of
Austin:
The 29th Annual National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 with a kickoff celebration from 5-7 p.m. at The Domain® in the Macy’s Parking lot.

Neighborhoods throughout Austin are invited to join thousands of communities nationwide to participate in the event that is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness Generate support and participation in crime prevention efforts Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations Send the message that your neighborhood is a safe place to live

Neighborhoods are encouraged to come together and send the message that we are all working together to prevent crime and keep our neighborhoods safe. From
5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, residents are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, EMS and fire fighters.
To register your neighborhood party, visit APD’s website at www.austintexas.gov/police.
For the rest of the nation, National Night Out occurs in August. Since Texas is so hot, the event has been moved to October when it is cooler outside.
