Bluebonnet Photo Spots

It’s bluebonnet season in Austin, which means it’s time for the traditional family portrait in a field of wildflowers.  As an amateur photographer I keep a running list of places to take that perfect photo.  I have not yet visited all of these spots this year but I thought I would share my list while the flowers are in full bloom.

  • Mabel Davis District Park – Once you park, walk past the skate park and playground until you see the field.
  • Drive south on Capitol of TX Hwy (Loop 360) pass Bee Cave Road and The Village Plaza.  When you get to the turn west for Lost Creek, turn east instead.  Drive down a small road to two elementary schools, Forest Trail and Valley View.  Along the right as you drive towards the schools there is a steep embankment off 360 with millions of bluebonnets.  (This is my favorite spot!)
  • Drive west on FM 2222 past MoPac and drive a little bit past the Jester intersection.  The flowers are in front of the Chase Bank building and in patches in the parking lot.
  • TXDOT Bull Creek Property just south of 45th Street
  • 601 W. Braker – several acres of lawn in front of St. Mark’s
  • 901 Discovery in Cedar Park. It’s just south/east of 1431 between 183 and 183A.
