Austin Police Department Central West District will host a Commander’s Forum next month.Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Time: 6:30 – 8 PM
Location: McCallum High School Cafeteria, 5600 Sunshine Dr. (map)Guest speaker will be Austin City Councilmember Sheryl Cole.
The Austin Police Department conducts Commander’s Forum meetings in each APD district to share and discuss issues and concerns with residents and business owners, in order to improve the quality of life in that district.

The 3M Half Marathon and Relay will take place this Sunday, January 24. The course begins in north Austin on Stonelake Blvd. and at 6:45 AM, nearly 5,000 runners will race south to the finish line at Waterloo Park downtown. Some streets are partially closed, some will be fully closed until the race ends at 11 AM.The streets in and near our neighborhood that will be affected include Anderson Lane, Burnet Road, Shoal Creek Blvd., Foster Lane, Northcross Drive, and Great Northern Blvd. Most of the ones in our area are only partially closed and should reopen by 9:30 AM. The Northcross Mall area is a great place to watch the race and cheer on the participants.

“Just a reminder that folks from all over Austin will be coming together for a crime and safety forum at the North Village Branch Library (2505 Steck Ave.) January 23 from 2-4 pm. This event will differ from the Commanders Forums in that it will be citizen led. We plan to share tips, talk about general concerns, and get questions answered. Allandale District Rep Kelly LaHood will be present, and we will invite APD District Representatives from any areas who will have residents at the meeting.”

“Planning Commissioner Kathie Tovo will speak at the next meeting of Sustainable Neighborhoods on Tuesday, January 19, about family-friendly design along streets like Burnet and Lamar. Commissioner Tovo is a former president of the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association and served on the City’s Families and Children Task Force. SN meetings are open to the public.
