  • North Shoal Creek is partnering with other north central neighborhoods to host the North Central Austin Neighborhoods Candidate Forum this Monday, April 13th at 6:30pm at Wozniak Hall, St Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd. Our area is rapidly growing, and it is important for us to have a clear voice in the developments affecting our neighborhood. By joining together with the Allandale, Brentwood, Crestview, Highland and Wooten neighborhoods, we hope our united voices make an impact on the candidates that will last long after the votes have been counted. Our aim is to let the candidates know what are important priorities for our neighborhoods and have them speak directly to these specific issues. Other forums exist to tackle city-wide issues—the goal of this forum is to strengthen the voice of north central Austin neighborhoods.

The forum website has much more information including the video we produced called “Room to Live” that shows how mixed use development could work in our neighborhoods.

The forum is runs from 6:30 to 9:00 PM, with the first half hour devoted to mixing with candidates and presentations explaining our neighborhood issues of concern. Candidate questioning will begin
    at 7:00 PM sharp.

The election is Saturday, May 9th. Be informed. Vote your choice for Austin’s Mayor and City Council Members (Places 1, 2, 5 and 6).

  • This just in from John Gillum.

North Village Branch Library Replacement Project: The Grand Opening of the North Village Branch Library has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 30, 2009, as the general contractor has yet to reach substantial completion of the project. At this time, the contractor is engaged in replacing the pervious concrete on the site, as it failed inspection, and is working toward completion of the owner’s punch list of items remaining to be installed, replaced or repaired according to the terms of the construction contract. The contractor is also working to redress a list of items identified by the building inspector as needing correction before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued. The Library Department is closely monitoring the contractor’s progress toward to completion and stands ready to begin moving furniture, equipment and collections into the facility as soon as it is legally able to do so.

  • The Beautification committee reports that they have chosen the Yard of the Month for March 2009. The winner is Mrs. Dorothy Ericson of 2706 Thrushwood. Her yard is a labor of love and she has been tending to it for over twenty years. Congratulations and look for this photo in the next newsletter.
