  • A summary of the results of NSCNA’s recent online survey of neighborhood residents is now available at https://www.nscna.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/NSCNA-2016-Survey-Summary-Web.pdf.

    We owe a very big thank you to Media Committee member Jennifer Noinaj who set up the online survey, compiled the results, and produced the survey summary.

    Sixty-two surveys were completed online, the majority by respondents who were not NSCNA members. Only six paper surveys were received, but that was our fault: we flubbed by leaving a digit off NSCNA’s PO Box number. We sincerely apologize for our mistake. We want your input, so we’re continuing to accept paper surveys. If you mailed one in and are willing to complete the survey again, please email your address to directors@nscna.org. A director will drop off a replacement paper copy at your home, along with a correctly addressed and stamped envelope. Please complete it and mail it in again so your responses will be included in the survey results.

    We apologize for the inconvenience of filling it out twice, but your input is important to us. The goal of the survey is to identify what is important to North Shoal residents. Association officers will use the results to help set association priorities for 2016 and future years.

    The online survey results showed that currently the three most important issues for our residents are neighborhood development, safety and traffic. The comments sections contain many good suggestions for improving our neighborhood as well as increasing membership and participation in Association events and projects.

    Thank you to everyone who participated. The online survey results are already proving to be valuable in helping guide Association officers to understand the needs of our residents. To those who participated via paper mail, we again apologize for our mistake and hope you’ll give the paper survey one more try. Please email directors@nscna.org so we can bring you a replacement copy.

  • What: Austin ARMA’s 13th Annual Free Spring Shred Day
    Where: ACC Highland (use 523 E Highland Mall Blvd for GPS)
    When: May 14, 2016 (Sat) 8am – 1:30pm

    With the increased awareness of identity theft, it is more important than ever to carefully dispose of personal records such as credit card statements, checking account records, prescription documents, and medical insurance files. The Austin chapter of ARMA along with Balcones Shred, Iron Mountain and Shred-It are sponsoring our 13th Annual Free SPRING Shred Day. Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 14th, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at ACC Highland (6101 Airport Blvd – GPS address below). Due to increased demand, to ensure the safety of the volunteers, and to streamline the process, we will continue to provide our very successful “Express Lane” for attendees. This speedy and secure option will allow attendees to drop off their boxes on a secure truck that will be driven by insured and bonded shred vendors to their secure shred facilities here in Austin and will be shred within 48-72 hours. Mobile Shred Units will also be available for those who wish or their items to be shred in their presence. We will only accept dry paper packed in cardboard boxes with fitting lids that are no larger than 24” x 24” x 36” (i.e. no hard plastics, no plastic bags, no electronic media, no batteries and no three-ring binders). For additional specifications regarding what can be shred and how it should be prepared, please visit http://www.austinarma.com/shred-day. All of the shredded material and cardboard boxes are recycled.

    Please note the location for the spring shred day will be held at the ACC Highland campus at 6101 Airport Blvd, but the address to use in your GPS is 523 E Highland Mall Blvd. This is on the opposite side of campus from the main address.

    Monetary donations will be accepted with 50% of the proceeds going to the local ARMA Austin Chapter and 50% going to the Capital Area Food Bank.

  • MOSQUITO CONTROL

    Communications & Public Info Office from City of Austin has released the following information on Next Door North Shoal Creek under Fight the Bite, Day and Night

    Mosquito season is upon us. Protect yourself from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry (e.g., Zika Virus and West Nile Virus). Mosquitoes can develop in only a teaspoon of water.

    Remove the places mosquitoes breed:
    • Check around your house and empty items that hold water such as flower pots, toys, tires, and birdbaths.
    • Clean clogged roofs and drain flat roofs.
    • Keep yards and shrubs trimmed.
    • Fix outdoor pipes and leaky faucets.

    And protect yourself from getting bitten:
    • Keep full screens on windows or use air conditioning,
    • Dress in light-colored, long-sleeved, loose fitting clothes.
    • Use an EPA-approved mosquito repellent and follow directions.

  • City of Austin Hosts Mobility Talks Live Meeting April 23rd
    The City of Austin is hosting a community meeting on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 2-5 PM, in the Northwest Recreation Center’s gymnasium, 2913 Northland Drive. The City is seeking public input on improving Austin’s transportation network. The meeting is an open house event that will include informational displays and facilitated small group discussions.

    Light refreshments will be provided; supervised children’s activities will be available.

  • Northbound MoPac Aux lane between 35th and 45th Streets to close for 6 months

    There will be a significant traffic change starting the weekend of April 8th.
    The MoPac Improvement Project will need to close a portion of the auxiliary
    lane on northbound MoPac between the 35th Street entrance ramp and the 45th
    Street exit ramp. The closure will be in place for approximately 6 months
    to allow the workers to remove a now abandoned City of Austin water line,
    to build a retaining wall/sound wall, and to widen MoPac in the area.
    Drivers will still be able to use both the 35th Street entrance ramp and
    the 45th Street exit ramp. All main lanes of the highway will still be
    open.

    This change should primarily impact drivers during evening peak hour when
    northbound MoPac is congested and some drivers use the auxiliary lane to
    try and queue jump, or get ahead of other drivers. We expect the closure to
    be implemented over the weekend and be fully in place by Sunday morning
    April 10th.
