  • CodeNEXT is the City of Austin initiative to revise the Land Development Code which determines how land can be used throughout the city, including What can be built, Where it can be built and How Much can be built. This effort presents an unprecedented opportunity for community members to shape the way we live now and for generations to come.

In order to facilitate your input by the City’s timeframe, the Development Committee of the NSCNA is:

    1. Collecting photos by February 20th: Neighbors are asked to take photographs of houses, buildings, sidewalks, parks, streetscapes and other things to show the character of the neighborhood and what is unique. See more info in Background below. Photographs should be sent by email to media@nscna.org for consolidation and submission to CodeNEXT. Arrangements can also be made for transfer of digital files.

    2. Hosting a Neighborhood Workshop Tuesday, February 11th, 2014, 6:30 to 8 PM, at Pillow Elementary School, 3025 Crosscreek Drive, for developing input to a City of Austin CodeNEXT Community Character in a Box for the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood. All neighborhood residents are invited to attend and participate in this community process.

    Background:
In January, four Community Character Workshops were conducted. Citizens were asked to complete a survey and write on an Area map of their neighborhood to indicate:
What they like about the neighborhood, favorite places, amenities, services, civic institutions, parks, etc.
What they did not like about the neighborhood, Constraints such as abandoned buildings, empty lots, dangerous routes, eye-sores, environmental hazards, land uses they wish would relocate, etc.
What areas need improvements, such as empty lots, an amenity or service needed, a good spot for public art, a community garden, etc.

The next phase of the process is to develop what they call Community Character in a Box, to share the unique features of each neighborhood. That is what this workshop will be about.

The February 11th Workshop will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about CodeNEXT and provide input to record the character of our North Shoal Creek Neighborhood by:
Talking about what they like, do not like and what improvements they want.
Writing on a map to show these items and locations. This map will be returned to CodeNEXT.
Completing a survey form and questionnaire.

Additional information about CodeNEXT is available at http://www.austintexas.gov/codenext .
To submit comments and questions regarding CodeNEXT go to http://www.austintexas.gov/online-form/contact-codenext or visit their website and click on “Get involved,” then “contact us.”
