Information has just been received that the First Texas Honda request for reconsideration/request for variance for a 60 ft sign has been withdrawn. No action will be taken by the sign Review Board on the case at their meeting today.

First Texas Honda has requested the City Sign Review Board reconsider the action taken on August 13 to deny the request for variance to permit a 60 ft sign at their location at 3400 Steck Avenue.
The Case Number is C16-2012-0011 – 3400 Steck Avenue. (same as before)
The hearing for the case is scheduled for Monday, September 17 beginning at 5:30 PM in the City Hall City Council Chambers. The agenda for he meeting is not available at this time. It is understood that this case will be the first one considered. It is also understood that the procedures will be:
First the board will consider the request for reconsideration. The applicant and opposition will each have 5 minutes to speak, possibly with a 2 minute rebuttal period. Then the public hearing will be closed and the board will consider and act.
If the board votes to reconsider the denial, then the public hearing for the request for variance may be reopened or postponed. If the public hearing is reopened the applicant and opposition may each have 5 minutes to speak.
While speaking time is quite limited, the number of neighbors who show up and register for or against the variance, as well as the number of neighbors in the audience should show the board the neighborhood interest, concern and support. At this time there is uncertainty about how the board hearing will be conducted. Therefore, flexibility and adjustment to changing circumstances may be necessary.
It is understood that a new notice of the public hearing of the case was mailed to stakeholders on September 6, with comment forms. These forms may be used to indicate whether the submitter is in favor of or object to the variance and comments. The forms should include include the name, address, signature, date and telephone number of the submitter. Forms may be mailed to the address on the form, or delivered to Susan Walker, Planning & Development Review Department, 1st floor, 505 Barton Springs Road. Any correspondence should include the same information and the case number.

NSCNA objects to the variance an therefore opposes the reconsideration of the Sign Review Board action on August 13 to deny the variance. Correspondence to that effect will be delivered to the Planning and Development Review Department.

A previous posting was made to this website on August 22 about the National Night Out October 2nd. This posting is a reminder that the deadline for registration with the Austin Police Department (for their support) is Friday, September 14, and to provide additional information:
Please consider scheduling a National Night Out party for your neighbors on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd. It’s a great chance to get your neighbors together to strengthen neighborhood spirit, generate support and participation in crime prevention efforts, and send a message to criminals that our neighborhood is organized and watching out for each other.Registration deadline is September 14. You can get an application form online at www.austintexas.gov/police. (Scroll down to “National Night Out, Application.”) Submitting an application asap will get your party in the queue for possible visits by the Police Dept. Fire Dept., EMS, and Code Compliance. You may also call 974-4900, and leave a message for Rosie Salinas who coordinates the NNO program for the Police Dept. About a week or so before Oct. 2nd you should receive notification that you can pick up an NNO packet that has information about crime prevention, code compliance, etc and a sample invitation you can give to your neighbors so they know about your party.
You may also call Sherran Williams, NSCNA board member, at 925-7490. She can deliver to you a sample invitation and a copy of the application form. If you let Sherran know you are having a party, she can also coordinate with Randolph Brooks Credit Union to get you bottles of water for the number of people you are expecting at your party. RBFCU has supported our neighborhood in the National Night Out efforts for several years.
