We received the following press release from Anderson High School:
Anderson High School Wind Ensemble is scheduled to compete in state honor band finals on Sunday, July 25, at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio. Ensemble Conductor Ryan Zysk says Anderson is one of 10 University Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A bands scheduled to participate in the highest level of concert band competition in the state.
“This is a huge honor for Anderson High School,” AISD Fine Arts Director Greg Goodman said. “The only other time Anderson advanced to this level was in 1975 when the school competed in the UIL 4A division. This honor solidifies Anderson as one of the top wind ensembles in the entire state of Texas. Congratulations to the students, parents and wonderful music directors Ryan Zysk, Corey Bergdorf, Shannon Gill, and Jesus Torres.”
“This success is unprecedented for our school, rare in our District, and for our music region,” Anderson Fine Arts Department Facilitator Richard Frazier said. “Our region includes Pflugerville and Westlake. Additionally, Anderson scored higher than ensembles representing school districts in the San Antonio, Waco and Houston areas.”
Unlike marching band competition, which are generally conducted in a stadium with hundreds of family members and friends cheering students on, state honor band finals will be adjudicated by a panel of five highly qualified judges, who will listen to a variety of recorded performances. The recordings will be presented anonymously.
The winner in San Antonio will be named the Texas Music Education Association 5A Honor Band and perform at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in February, 2011.
