From the City of Austin’s Corridor Program Office regarding construction this summer along Burnet Road:
“Thank you for your interest in the Burnet Road corridor! We have some exciting projects kicking off and wrapping up this summer that will implement critical safety and mobility improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Braker Lane: Construction of sidewalks at, and near, the Burnet Road/Braker Lane intersection is expected to wrap up this month, pending any weather delays. The prioritized pedestrian and bicycle improvements were built in preparation for Austin FC home games to improve conditions for travel to and from games.
Penny Lane: Construction of the Penny Lane pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB), a mid-block pedestrian crosswalk signal, is expected to begin in late June. This will provide pedestrians a protected crossing across Burnet Road from Penny Lane to Doris Drive, which is currently an unsignalized intersection. We anticipate this work will be completed in October.
Twin Oaks Drive: New sidewalks will be built starting in August on the eastside of Burnet Road from south of Twin Oaks Drive to south of Addison Avenue to accommodate a new PHB at Twin Oaks Drive. The future PHB will create better connectivity for pedestrians and transit users.
Lamar Middle School: In the next several weeks, the Corridor Program Office (CPO) will begin construction on sidewalks in front of Lamar Middle School on the westside of Burnet Road from Koenig Lane to White Horse Trail. This will provide improved conditions for students ahead of the upcoming academic year as they walk to school. Work is expected to take approximately 80 days.
Once this construction work is complete, CPO will have constructed nearly three-quarters of a mile of new sidewalks to improve the safety and mobility of Austinites on the Burnet Road corridor.
Construction includes intermittent lane closures, which may cause traffic delays. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the week, and occasionally on weekends.
The Corridor Program Office has made a promise to voters that we will deliver much-needed safety and mobility improvements efficiently and on time. We are committed to keeping that promise, and our team will continue to work diligently, putting your bond dollars to work as we pursue additional opportunities to break ground on our projects as soon as possible.
